From Little Rock to the Ozarks, Arkansas is a state of abundant natural beauty. It’s no wonder they call it “The Natural State.” It’s home to mountains, caves, rivers, hot springs, and maybe even your next hire. In this era of remote work, your next employee could be from anywhere, including the beautiful state of Arkansas.
Bringing on a new employee can be exciting, but there’s often a lot to do as well. You want to onboard your new hire as quickly and smoothly as possible to ensure their success at your organization. But before you get started with onboarding, you’ll need to register your company with the state of Arkansas. Fortunately, registering your business in Arkansas is easy.
Register your business in Arkansas in three easy steps:
- First, you’ll need to hear over to the Arkansas Taxpayer Access Point to register with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. You’ll find “new business registration” under “quick links.” You’ll need to register your business to obtain your taxpayer ID. You should receive your taxpayer ID e by mail in 1-2 weeks
- Once you have your taxpayer ID you can sign up for an account from the Arkansas Taxpayer Access Point homepage.
- You’ll also need to register with the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services so that you can pay unemployment taxes. On the far left-hand side of the webpage, you can click "Register for DWS Employer Account." The application should take about 5 minutes to complete and you’ll get a confirmation via email right away.
Remember that if you pay $1000 or more to an employee in a single quarter, or if you employ one or more people in a calendar year, you will be responsible for paying state unemployment tax.
Once you’re registered with the Department of Finance and the Division of Workforce Services, you’ll be able to take care of your unemployment and wage withholding responsibilities online via the Arkansas Taxpayer Access Point site.
