But before you get started with onboarding, you’ll need to register your company with the state of Missouri.

  1. In Missouri, you can register for both the withholding tax and the unemployment tax through the Department of Revenue’s online registration process.

You’ll receive your account numbers around two weeks after you register. Once you’ve received your account numbers, you’ll be able to register new employees, file wage reports, and submit unemployment taxes online. If you have employees in Kansas City or St. Louis, you may be responsible for additional city taxes. You can register with the City of Kansas City - Revenue Division online. For St. Louis, you’ll need to fill out an E-9 form and fax it to the Collector of Revenue.
