You can register with both the Virginia Department of Taxation and the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) online via the Virginia Tax Online Services for Businesses website.

You should receive your VA Tax Account Number (for withholding taxes) and your VEC Account Number (for unemployment taxes) immediately after registering online. Once you’ve received your account numbers, you’ll be able to register new employees, file wage reports, and submit unemployment taxes online.
